Reiki began in Japan, it is a form of energy healing where a Reiki practitioner lays hands on or over the body of the receiver to infuse the energy body with “universal life-force energy” – rei-ki.

Reiki was discovered by Mikao Usui who was looking for a way to connect people to universe life-force energy. It is said he discovered Reiki after a retreat where he felt the divine energy come upon him, awakening in him the ability to heal.

There are five Reiki principles:

  • Just for today, I will not be angry
  • Just For Today, I Will Not Worry
  • Just For Today, I Will Be Grateful
  • Just For Today, I Will Do My Work Honestly
  • Just For Today, I Will Be Kind To Every Living Being

When Reiki is performed, the practitioner will call in the Reiki, making the intention to heal the receiver by directing the Reiki to go where it is needed most for the receiver’s best and highest good. The energy is directed by universal force, as the practitioner places hands over the body, balancing the chakras, as well as feeling for blockages in the energy body and move them on.

Practitioners are attuned to the Reiki symbols by a Teacher who performs a ceremony where they enter the Reiki symbols into the practitioner’s energy field.

There are many different forms of Reiki with no form being better than any other, merely personal preference of the practiuoner, some practising many forms themselves.
