Ancestor Work
Ancestor work is the spiritual practice of honouring, remembering and connecting with those who came before us. Many cultures throughout history have maintained traditions of ancestor veneration, believing that the wisdom, experiences and influence of previous generations continue beyond physical death.
Practices may include creating ancestor altars, offering prayers, sharing stories, researching family history or participating in cultural ceremonies. Some people seek guidance from ancestors through meditation, dreams or intuitive practices.
Ancestor work is often viewed as a way of strengthening personal identity, healing family patterns and fostering a deeper sense of connection with one’s heritage. While approaches vary widely, respect and gratitude are common themes across many traditions.
Today ancestor work continues to be explored as both a spiritual practice and a means of understanding personal and cultural history.
